Using existing footpaths, bridleways and a few minor roads where absolutely necessary, this 88-mile-long distance footpath has been planned to follow as closely as possible, the course of Shakespeare’s Avon from its source in Naseby to its confluence with the River Severn at Tewkesbury. Although it is not always possible to stay close to the Avon at all times it crosses many miles of largely unspoilt countryside. It passes through Warwick with its splendid castle, Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon, and before joining the Severn, it goes close beside the Avon through Evesham, Pershore and on to Tewkesbury.

Naseby to Clifton-upon-Dunsmore near Rugby – 14 miles
Clifton-upon-Dunsmore near Rugby to Warwick – 22 miles
Warwick to Stratford-upon-Avon – 16 miles
Stratford-upon-Avon to Evesham – 16 miles
Evesham to Pershore – 8 miles
Pershore to Tewkesbury – 12 miles

Like all river walks the Shakespeare’s Avon Way is best walked in Summertime between May and October as serious flooding can occur in the winter months. The route is waymarked and shown on OS Explorer maps. The guidebook provides detailed navigation instructions and clear maps.
